Objectives NIE is acting as a Regional Institute to conduct HIV sentinel surveillance Programme in 7 southern states of India.
Description Pre Surveillance Meeting was conducted at NIE from 2-4 August 2010 as part of last HSS round. State Epidemiologists, Microbiologists & Medical officers and other staff involved in HSS activities, totally 28 participants were attended the meeting. HSS guidelines to be followed at ANC, STD and HRG sites were explained and the newly introduced Dried Blood Spot (DBS) methodology for blood collection was demonstrated. Hands on training were given on Data collection. Random sampling methodology was adopted for the states of Tamilnadu, Andhra pradesh, Karnataka and Pondicherry and for the other two states (Orissa, Kerala) consecutive sampling was followed.
Quarterly Reports (5-10 lines) HIV estimation for southern states are being calculated based on the sentinel surveillance data available.
