||Study population includes 100 HIV-positive and 100 HIV-negative eligible IDUs (based on the cross-sectional study) attending Hopers Foundation clinics in Chennai. They were seen every six months for three years. HIV-negative participants had HIV testing every 6 months. All participants were administered a Lifestyle questionnaire, including a 24 hour dietary recall, and measurements of body composition. Approximately 15 ml of blood was drawn and analysed for HIV specific assays (Elisa, CD4 and viral load), complete blood counts, albumin, glucose, insulin, lipid profile, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and serum micronutrient levels.
