Objectives Estimate compliance of the ban on smoking in restaurants/eateries and educational institutions.

Estimate the compliance of the provision for prohibiting sales of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions 
Description 400 restaurants/eateries in 20 wards in Chennai were covered under this survey
Quarterly Reports (5-10 lines) Signages indicating prohibition of smoking were observed in 29 (7.3%) restaurants/eateries. 338 (84.5%) restaurants/eateries had no smoking events at the time of survey. 287 schools and all the 54 colleges in the Chennai corporation limits were included in the survey. Only few schools and colleges had signages displaying prohibition of smoking and notifying prohibition of sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of the educational institutions.
Significant achievements A tool was developed that can be used for surveillance for smoke free laws in India.
