The internships will be provided in the following technical areas

  • Public Health & Epidemiology
  • Health Systems Research
  • Biostatistics 
  • Public Health Data Management 
  • Social and Behavioural Sciences 
  • Library Sciences 

Note: Presently, internships are NOT offered in laboratory disciplines such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology. Please refrain from applying or sending separate emails for internships in this matter.

WHO CAN APPLY

Students from India or overseas students of Indian origin.
Only for current academic students.

DURATION

The minimum and maximum period for an internship will be two weeks and three months respectively.

FEES/STIPEND

As per the ICMR-NIE policy, there are no fees for the internship.
No stipend or honorarium or TA/DA will be paid during the internship.

CERTIFICATE

An​ internship e-certificate will be provided at the end of the successful completion of the internship.

Application procedure


  • Interested candidates are instructed to apply by filling the online application at the ICMR-NIE website.  


  • Online application submission: The internship online application form will be available from 1st to 7th  of every month. Candidates should apply at least one month prior to the proposed internship start date failing which the application will be rejected.


  • Scope of internship: For the internship, applicants are free to choose any area of interest, from the list provided in the application. 


  • The candidates should upload the signed Bonafide certificate from their institution with a passport-size photo during the registration process. Incomplete applications will be rejected.


  • Publication of list of selected applicants: The list of selected applicants will be posted on the ICMR-NIE website by 16th day of the month.  


  • Re-application by Non-Selected Students: Students who are not selected can reapply in the next available cycle.  


  • The rejected/non-selected applications will not receive any communication. Further correspondence in this regard will not be entertained. 


  • Do not have remote internship opportunities.

General instructions for selected candidates

  • N​o accommodation will be arranged/ provided for the interns. The interns should make their own arrangements.
  • The selected candidates should follow ICMR-NIE rules and regulations with regular attendance during the internship period.
  • Work not covered under internship: Project work or dissertation work will not be allowed during the internship.
  • Extension of internship period: If a student’s internship period needs to be extended, the mentor must justify the reasons to the committee. Additionally, the student must submit a permission letter for the extension period from their affiliated college, institute, or university.
  • The internship will be terminated immediately if any breach of the code of conduct is reported by the mentor.
  • ICMR-NIE accepts no responsibility for costs or fatality arising from illness /or accidents during the internship period.
  • ICMR-NIE internships are purely academic in nature. The interns cannot apply for any posts/positions at ICMR-NIE during the internship period.
  • ICMR-NIE has a strict policy on data security. Publication can be developed based on internship work after obtaining due approval from the Manuscript committee and Director, ICMR-NIE.
  • All Interns are required to submit a report of work done during their internship, duly certified by their ICMR-NIE mentor.
